Location, location, location. Nestled in one of Madrid’s bustling local neighborhoods, Bastardo Hostel offers perks both inside and out. With Plaza del Dos de Mayo just a six-minute walk from your bed, you’re surrounded not only by the culture and attractions of the Malasaña neighborhood, but also food, drink, and local life. But, all of this is outside, let’s take a peek inside.
OK, but wait. Did you notice the super cool design of the building itself? Surrounded by big glass windows covered in massive pieces of art you can, and should, judge this hostel by its cover.
Now step inside to the big, bright lobby space. Though there are bars outside, you can also enjoy a drink here with fellow travelers and the super friendly staff at Bastardo. Because this space is also open to the public, you’ll be able to rub shoulders with some locals. Too busy in this common space? Head to the “beach area” upstairs where you can lounge in a hammock under the sun. And yes, you can bring your sangria!

Besides walking tours there are other activities organized by the hostel, so be sure to ask the staff what’s going on during your stay. Plus, anything else you want to do or book, including onward travel, the hostel staff will gladly help you with.
When all is said and done and you’re quite exhausted, you’ll be glad to collapse into a comfy bed. Bastardo Hostel understands that hostels aren’t just for broke college kids, so they’ve fully embraced the flashpacker vibe. Broke college kids are still welcome though! Rooms are modern, clean, and spacious. You have your pick of setups with privates including doubles, with or without a terrace, family rooms for three or four, as well as twins. Every private room has an ensuite bath. If you’re traveling on your own there are also plenty of dorm options with rooms sleeping four or six. All female dorm options are available as well. Every bed has a personal light, plug, and USB socket, plus you’ll have your own locker. The beds are all built into the wall and the ladders are fully attached, which means no shaking, breaking, or falling! Every bed comes with linens. Towels need to be rented if you’re staying in a dorm room, but privates will have them provided.
A few final words on Bastardo to make sure you’ve got the full picture… WiFi is provided throughout the hostel and it’s strong enough for all of your most pressing internet needs. There is an elevator to get you to the upper floors. All rooms are air-conditioned, Madrid gets hot in the summer! Bastardo is also happy to accommodate early check-in or late check-out and will store luggage for free. There is a small kitchen on-site but it’s not for cooking, only for storing food and reheating it. But when you’ve got so many options of truly spectacular food just out the door, skip the ramen and go dine out!
