Tiny Moreso is a hidden gem in NE Portland that makes for a great healthy food stop. Though you won’t suspect it, everything at Tiny Moreso is 100% gluten-free and vegan! As for the menu, it’s not very big but they do serve little snacks and delicious toast like avocado and chipotle cashew cream served on gluten-free bread from New Cascadia. However, I think they truly shine when it comes to their fresh juices, smoothies and raw desserts. You don’t want to miss out on their cheesecakes, they alone make Tiny Moreso worth visiting.

Departure Restaurant + Lounge

High up on the fifteen floor of the Nines Hotel is the upscale Asian fusion restaurant Departure. The dedicated gluten-free menu offers an array of innovative dishes including sushi, kushiyaki (Japanese skewers) and desserts. Actually, all of their desserts are gluten-free!

Accompanying the unique Asian dishes are fantastic views of downtown PDX and of course cocktails. You can enjoy the lovely view and drinks at the lounge/rooftop bar without reservations, however if you want to experience a nice sit-down meal in their spaceship like restaurant, reservations are required.

Note: Though this is a fancy restaurant, Departure can get noisy because of the rooftop bar, so don’t expect a quiet and peaceful dinner.

Mississippi Pizza Pub

Mississippi Pizza Pub is known to most as the spot to devour one of the best gluten-free pizzas in Portland. At an additional price, almost all of their pizzas (8”-16”) can be made gluten-free. They even offer vegan, gluten-free pizza crust! The pizza crust is truly divine and doesn’t taste like cardboard, which is always a bonus!

The pizza crusts are made in their certified and dedicated gluten-free facility, Portland Gluten-Free, which makes wholesale gluten-free pie crust and they’re stored separately at the restaurant. As for cross-contamination, Mississippi goes through great lengths to minimize it. All pizza makers are trained to avoid cross-contamination while separate utensils and pots are used as well as a separate oven.

Celiac Note: Though all measures are taken, you can still get sick as wheat flour is used in the space. If you want to be 100% safe, I would recommend buying their individual frozen pizza crust (which is certified) from them and making your own pizza.

Voted as the Portland metropolitan area’s best taqueria (by a landslide) is the famous Por Que No! Luckily for us, most of their dishes are gluten-free or can be made gluten-free. That includes their tacos made of fresh homemade corn tortillas. The wait and long lines are worth it.

Celiac Note: Ask about the meat when ordering, as not all of them are gluten-free.

For my non-dairy friends, Eb & Bean always offers three dairy-free yogurt flavors, including coconut and almond. All of Eb & Bean’s frozen yogurt is organic, probiotic-rich and free of artificial sweeteners, preservatives and corn syrup. There are also many gluten-free toppings to choose from, like cookie dough and almond truffle crumbles.

Celiac Note: Ask the staff if you can clean the nozzle of the yogurt dispenser and skip the toppings due to cross-contamination. To be even safer, just go with a prepackaged pint of ice cream in the freezer.

  1. Honey Butter Country Fair is an amazing gluten free cart. They also offer vegan choices. It’s fair food – so corn dogs and funnel cakes. My kids are both gluten free and they don’t live in Portland- but they always want to go there when they’re in town
