Perfect for campers, backpackers, and a wide variety of travelers, the Elegear Ultralight Camping Sleeping Pads make an ideal place to sleep for any adventure. Elegear’s innovative design offers customers a unique product that has been carefully crafted to eliminate common problems associated with sleeping pads, such as air leakage, difficult inflation systems, and cheap materials that cause the pad to bottom out. What follows is a thorough review of two of Elegear’s Ultralight Sleeping Pads, the 2.4-inch Double Sleeping Pad and the 4-inch Double Sleeping Pad.

Comfy, durable, and affordable, each of these pads makes an impressive budget-friendly option for anyone in the market for a portable two-person sleeping pad. For travelers and adventurers looking to cut down the weight of their backpack, the 2.4-inch pad offers a convenient lightweight option that doesn’t compromise on comfort or durability. If you’re willing to sacrifice a couple of extra pounds for maximum comfort, we recommend the 4-inch pad, which is just two pounds heavier and a bit more cushioned.

Inflation

Both pads are self-inflating and come with built-in foot pumps, saving you the hassle of inflating your pad by mouth or carrying a separate pump. The 2.4-inch pad can be inflated with just one minute of stepping, and the 4-inch pad takes two minutes to fully inflate. The innovative design on both pads features a double-layer one-way valve that is meant to streamline the inflation process and prevent air leakage, and the lack of additional pieces and tools adds an extra element of convenience. The high-quality valves also make the pads super easy to deflate and allow for minor adjustments to be made to the air capacity so that you can get it just right for a comfortable night of sleep.

Comfort

Surprisingly supportive for its size, the 2.4-inch model stands up to thicker competing pads in the comfort department. Both pads feature built-in ergonomic pillows, and the honeycomb-style air cells are designed to provide soft support for all major pressure points. Elegear Sleeping Pads are strategically designed to keep the top of the mattress from touching the ground while you’re resting, and the extra width provided by the 4-inch pad offers maximum comfort levels akin to a home mattress. The 4-inch model also features a unique drawstring support technology that keeps you further elevated off the ground and prevents the mattress from bottoming out, a common problem with many competing budget-friendly and even high-end sleeping pads.

Durability

Made from ultrathick 40D nylon and TPU, both pads are waterproof, tear-resistant, and perfectly suited for rough weather and rocky terrain. Both pads also come with a patch kit for emergencies, helping them to further stand up to even the harshest environments. Everything from the double-layer valves to the built-in pumps have been thoroughly checked for durability, and the pads have passed several tests involving sustained pressure and stressful conditions. The quality fabric also makes for an impressive weight limit of 661 pounds for both pads, greatly surpassing the limits of most popular alternatives.

Insulation

With an R-value of 2.1, both pads will insulate you from the ground and keep you comfortable through most three-season camping and backpacking weather conditions. Although Elegear employs an effective air-cell design to prevent heat loss, these pads are not recommended for frigid temperatures. For winter and cold-weather camping, you’ll likely want to opt for a thermal pad with an R-value of at least five.

Size

Both sleeping pads come in double size and are meant to sleep two people with an upper weight limit of 661 pounds. With both options also boasting a length of about 79 inches, these sizable sleeping pads are even comfy for extremely tall individuals. Although they both fold down to a convenient and portable size, the 4-inch model may be a bit too large for backpacking and is most ideal for any type of camping where luggage space is not too limited or you’re just making a quick trip from the car to the campground.

Portability

Although the Elegear pads are not the lightest on the market, they are still both considered ultralight and portable, especially if you’re not trekking too far and your campsite is close by. The pads are surprisingly compact for their impressive level of comfort, quality, and size once unfolded, and when you’re embarking on a lengthy camping trip, a few extra ounces is a small price to pay for a mattress that feels like home. The built-in pump and pillows slip right into the included travel bag, which eliminates any need to carry extra pieces and seriously cuts down on how much bedding you need to bring with you. While the 4-inch model is super light for its size and durable construction, it may be difficult to take on any adventures where you’re limited to a small pack of luggage. In cases where two pounds make all the difference, you’ll find that the 2.4-inch model is still super comfy.

Overall, we find that both the Elegear 2.4” Double Sleeping Pad and the Elegear 4” Double Sleeping Pad are very impressive and reliable options. Which pad you go for depends on your personal preference and packing constraints, but both pads promise a ton of comfort in a convenient and affordable package. You really can’t beat the value provided by these highly rated sleeping pads.
