Svejk Restaurant U Karla – CLOSED

For a traveling celiac, there is nothing quite like the feeling of traveling to a new country and being able to eat their traditional dishes! And with U Karla, you get just that! Though not a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, U Karla has an extensive gluten-free menu (over 6 pages long :)) with traditional Czech dishes such as dumplings, goulash, roasted duck and more. We, of course, went with the traditional dishes all three times we visited. The goulash, schnitzel, and apple strudel are highly recommended. At U Karla you can also join in on the Czech tradition and have a nice beer (gluten-free of course) with your meal.

Please note: Svejk is a chain restaurant and there are many around the city. However, U Karla is the only one with gluten-free options, so be sure you go to the right one!

Gluten Free Goulash

Sweet Secrets of Raw – CLOSED

If you are looking to have a sweet treat while in Prague without worrying about gluten being everywhere and cross-contamination, head to Sweet Secrets of Raw! Everything in this raw dessert/cake shop is gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free and vegan! So there is no need for your sweet tooth to suffer during your gluten-free trip to Prague.

Angelato

Angelato is an ice cream parlor with gluten-free gelato and sorbets. 90% of the flavors are gluten-free, with the exception of the cookies, tiramisu and the gingerbread flavors (please note that new flavors are added each month, so check their website for an allergens list). Did I mention they have gluten-free waffle cones? However, please be aware of cross-contamination, as they do have regular cones and the scooping spoon might touch the cones.

White & Crispy – CLOSED

Formerly known as “The Sweet Life of Gluten Free”, this 100% gluten-free Italian bakery is exactly what a celiac needs, a place where you can indulge in freshly-made bread and pastries without the fear of cross-contamination. Oh, and did I mention that you can also choose from over 20 different kinds of pizza and even lasagne? It’s a celiac paradise in my opinion.

Lavande – CLOSED

This French restaurant will have you wondering “what have I been eating all my life”? The food is made with high-quality ingredients and tastes delicious. Most of the items on the menu are gluten-free, and if they are not, gluten-free options are available. For example, they will serve you their homemade GF bread instead of regular bread for sides, or their homemade GF gnocchi if you want the gnocchi dish. However, please note cross-contamination is still possible, as regular bread is handled in the same area.

Czech’s drink beer like it’s water, actually it’s cheaper than water so it’s clear you can’t visit Prague without drinking beer. Luckily for you (and me :)) there are two gluten-free beers in Prague, Zatec Celia and Bernard Bezlepkový, both of which you can find in supermarkets and some bars and restaurants. Yup, socializing as a celiac in Prague just got easier! Na zdravi! (Cheers!)

  • Sal Corio

There are many shops and cafes with ice cream filled pastry. Today I had the good fortune of stopping at GOOD FOOD at Karlova 8 near the Charles Bridge. I asked about getting their home made ice cream in a cup because I couldn’t eat the gluten pastry. I was informed they can make the pastry gluten free. I ordered one. They made it fresh, so I waited 20 minutes while it cooked and cooled. When ready the pastry was filled with homemade soft serve ice cream. The pastry and ice cream were delicious.
